editorial by Camille Gooderham Campbell
From the Editors
One person trying to do too much isn’t good, especially when nasty life stuff strikes (like the back-to-school plague). I got weighed down by that in September… and now here we are into October, with everyone wondering where the stories are!
But there’s always a silver lining. I’m so happy to announce that Melissa Reynolds is stepping up as Deputy Managing Editor so that the magazine won’t go down when I do. She’s already shown her exceptional editorial eye and tact and communication skills as an editorial assistant, and I’m looking forward to sharing my duties with her and teaching her everything I know about managing a magazine.
Happy Thanksgiving to our Canadian readers! And happy pumpkin-spice-and-miniature-candy-bar season to all.
We’ve got a couple of new Halloween stories coming at the end of the month — “Fat Vlad” by Kip Hanson on Friday, October 28th, to start off the costume-party weekend, and “Zombie Walk” by Lise Colas on Halloween itself. If you want more, or can’t wait, check out our Halloween tag page for some end-of-October stories from our archives.
We’re now looking for some new slush readers! If you’re interested, check out this job description and application instructions. Once we’ve got a few new team members on board and trained, we’ll be ready to open our new submission system up to everyone. Announcements will be posted as we go.
In the meantime, get your stories ready for Remembrance Day / Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Guy Fawkes Day, and other November things. It’s also not too early to be thinking about December — Christmas, Hanukkah, Winter Solstice, Kwanzaa, and New Year’s Eve.
But we all know you’re really here for the stories, so…
