Friends, it’s quarter to midnight on September 1st, and I promised Tim (EDF’s amazing senior editor and an all-around star of a human being) that I would get on here and post something to acknowledge that — sometimes limping and sometimes running — Every Day Fiction has now completed nineteen (19!) trips around the sun.
When I look back at the past years, some new things are great, but there are also things I miss. Submittable does its job well, but I remember Steven’s custom submission system fondly. We were so lucky to have his skill and time for so long. Discord is cool, but does anyone here remember the old forums?
The past couple of years have been a bit of a struggle as so much has changed in the world, both of magazines and… everything else. I’m sorry for the gaps in service. Here’s hoping for the best year ahead possible!
The biggest gift of EDF has always been community, and sometimes I fear that it’s getting away from us. Please, if you want to see us keep going, this is what we need:
- Comment on the stories you read. It’s a more vibrant place here with a conversation.
- If you have time, volunteer to read slush with us, just for a few months.
- If you’re good at social media stuff, we’d love some help there too.
So… Happy 19th Birthday, EDF!
