February’s Table of Contents

From the Editors

Let’s call this “Show Some Love Month”, shall we? If you like what EDF does for you, it’s time to show your love — a dollar a month through Patreon is nothing, less than coffee, spare change, but it means the world to us. Can we get up to 50 patrons this month? Do we have an awesome, thoughtful, supportive, giving community here? I believe we do; please prove me right.

For Readers

Our Valentine’s Day story for this year is “Love in the Real World” by Mame Zirro. As you know, the real world doesn’t make it easy for love to happen…

And if you’re looking for a great book to read, Gay Degani’s novel What Came Before (published by Every Day Novels) took first place in the Mystery Novel category of the annual Preditors & Editors Poll. In many ways, it’s about love too.

For Writers

Along with the usual candy hearts and insanely expensive flowers, February brings you Flash Fiction Chronicles’ String-of-10 SEVEN Flash Fiction Contest (beginning on February 8th with the announcement of the prompts, and closing on February 15th).

Please send us your stories for anything to do with March (Purim, International Women’s Day, Friday the 13th — yes, there is one in March, Pi Day, Ides of March, Spring Break, St. Patrick’s Day, International Earth Day) or April (April Fools’ Day, Easter, Passover, US Earth Day, Administrative Professionals’ Day) as soon as possible. We absolutely need them at least three days before the end of the month or they won’t have a chance of making it into the calendar.

In staffing news, slush reader Tiana Rapley is increasing her academic commitments and therefore has to leave us for the present time; we’ll definitely miss Tiana but we know how important education is and we wish her the best as she pursues it. This also means that we’re looking for at least one (or maybe two) new slush readers to join our team.

With all that, the coming months should be interesting, to say the least.

And for this month, here are the stories you’ll be reading…
